In 2000, legislation was enacted which provided that states could replace existing statues if they so choose. In order to do this however, they must adhere to certain guidelines. (Acrobat PDF will load in a new browser window and requires Adobe Acrobat ® Reader).

“The Study Committee shall study and review the lives of citizens of this state who positively represent Ohio based on their talents, character, and contributions. Not later than one year after the effective date of this act, the Study Committee shall prepare and submit a report to the General Assembly of its recommendation of an individual who should replace Governor William Allen as one of Ohio's representatives in the National Statuary Collection in the United States Capitol.”
~ Senate Bill Number 277
Ohio 126th General Assembly

The National Statuary Collection Study Committee has been tasked with finding a suitable replacement for Gov. Allen’s statue. (External link to Senate Bill 277 information will load in a new browser window).
