Name: Harriet Beecher Stowe
Reason: Abe Lincoln greeted her: "So you're the little lady who started the Civil War?" It's time we honor people from Ohio who actually changed the landscape of society, not just politicians and generals. Who better than Harriet Beecher Stowe, who crystallized the anti-slavery movement by personalising the issue for every reader of Uncle Tom's Cabin? Plus, it would be nice to have a woman and a man from Ohio in Statuary Hall, to represent all Ohioans.

Name: Harriet Beecher Stowe
Reason: I propose Harriet Beecher Stowe as the new statue to replace William Allen's. Her legacy as an abolitionist decries the legacy Ohio is seeking to leave behind in replacing William Allen and his anti-abolitionist stance. Stowe's novel, Uncle Tom's Cabin, made the abolitionist movement accessible to the masses, energized the fight for freedom and put pressure on the Southern States as well as Britain herself. President Abrahama Lincoln even credited her with the comment, "So you're the little lady who started this great war!" Through here talent, passion and dedication to the abolitionist cause, and the improvement of her country, Stowe helped rid this country of a great evil -- and she also happens to have been a woman.
